This ambitious project is to try to help deal with technology gap between the West and the developing world through donating computers to schools.
Computers have been in schools in Western countries for a quarter of a century. There are now few, if any countries in the world that do not have at least one computer per school. Yet the vast majority of schools in poor countries do not have any computers. Most of the worlds’ teachers have yet to feel comfortable integrating their use into the curriculum in educationally productive ways.
Majority of children in these countries have not seen or used a computer before. Many, if not most, schools in the world lack grid electricity and landline telephone and the impact of computer usage in schools is unclear. Not surprisingly, the role of computers in education and the priority they should have in the allocation of scarce educational resources in an increasing important area in education. Our project aims to provide this gap in the market by donating to those schools that are in desperate need of them. The computers are either donated by companies or individuals.
We are currently working with a number of schools in Africa who have already expressed their interest to take part in the project. In the UK a number of Companies have also registered with us to take part in the project and we will be working with them to help us reach the high demand we are getting from the participating schools. Ideally we are asking companies to donate their disused computers which no longer need which we will then take them for repair and packaging before we can ship them to Africa.
If your school or company is interested in participating in the project please get in touch with our Project Manager Jackie Wamaitha on email: admin.uk@medical-relief.org.
